The federal government will establish its own company to build a national broadband network that will deliver fast internet to almost all homes.

New Zealand's murder rate has almost halved in the past 20 years, despite most Kiwis believing crime is on the rise.
Police figures show that there are now 12 murders per one million people annually - a drop from the average of 21 murders between 1985 and 1992, the New Zealand Herald reports.
However, it is still double the six murders per million people seen in the 1960s.
Wellington criminologist Michael Rowe said the decline coincided with similar falls in violent crime in Australia, the United States and Britain since the early 1990s.
Rowe said the trend was probably due to a gradual drop in unemployment in all three countries, until recently, as well as a slight population decline among the most violence-prone group, males aged 15 to 29.
The trend bucks general beliefs, with a recent survey of 1,400 New Zealanders showing 80 per cent believed or strongly believed crime was increasing.
